Nilmini Roelens LLM, DEJF
Founder and Principal Solicitor
Roelens Solicitors is managed by Nilmini Roelens. Nilmini was admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England & Wales in 1991. She graduated from Leicester University in 1987 with her first degree in LLB Law with French. Being a fluent French speaker she obtained a Diplome d'Etudes Juridiques Francaises from Strasbourg University (France). She first developed her passion for the practice of Immigration Law as a Trainee Solicitor in London in 1990 and thus has three decades of experience in the field.
She became an individual member of the Immigration Law Practitioners Association in 1991. She focused on Immigration Law during her Masters Degree in European Law at Kings College, London. Since 1997 she managed her own successful specialist Immigration Law firm Roelens Solicitors employing a sizeable team of immigration lawyers during which time she secured Law Society Accreditation as a Supervisor in Immigration Law. She was also a member of the highly regarded Law Society's Immigration Law Panel and secured UK Border Agency approval for the firm's services in Sponsorship Licensing whilst the schemes were in operation and has conducted a number of seminars on the Points Based System notably on Tiers 2 and 4.
She has written many articles on the Points Based System, including the Innovator category, Tier 2 and other Immigration Law issues in specialist fora. She has a particular interest in Business Immigration including Global Talent, Start-ups and Innovators, Investor, Skilled Worker and Student Sponsors. She also contributes to international editorials at Chambers of Commerce and provides regular Insights on the firm's own website and on Linkedin. She has successfully challenged UKVI suspension and revocation action of sponsor licences of Businesses as well as Educational Institutions through representations and complex Judicial Review.
In addition to her deep interest in Business Immigration she is strongly committed to Human Rights and has been involved in a number of significant legal challenges in protection cases.
Nilmini's commitment to refugee and human rights issues, particularly as they affect religious minorities and issues relating to gender based persecution has led to her becoming the key author of two reports on country conditions, following fact-finding missions to Pakistan in 2014/5 and to Thailand and Malaysia in 2019.
She was a contributor to the All-Party Parliamentary Group for International Freedom of Religion or Belief. She has also contributed to Home Office policy on the position of religious minorities in Pakistan and ethnic minorities in Somalia. She represented the appellants in the country guidance cases of MN and others (Ahmadis – country conditions – risk) Pakistan CG  UKUT 00389 (IAC) and of MST and Others (national service – risk categories) Eritrea CG  UKUT 00443 (IAC)
Nilmini has also acted as a Consultant Solicitor to other specialist Immigration law firms.
Nilmini speaks fluent French and Sinhala. She also claims to have a beginners' intermediate knowledge of Mandarin Chinese as well as a smattering of Spanish and German.
Dr. Emre Korkmaz
Immigration Consultant - Protection
Dr Emre Korkmaz has a special interest in Refugee issues.
He is also a Departmental Lecturer in Migration and Development and part of the core academic staff of MSc in Migration Studies at the University of Oxford’s Department of International Development. He is a research fellow at St Edmund Hall and a Research Associate at the Centre for Technology and Global Affairs of the Department of Politics and International Relations.
Between October 2016 and September 2018, he was a British Academy, Newton International Fellow/ post-doctoral researcher at ODID. He is recognized by the British Academy as an emerging leader (exceptional promise), Research and Innovation.
He is a political scientist and international relations expert by training. He was awarded his PhD from Istanbul University’s Department of International Relations in June 2016. His academic work focuses on different aspects of migration and refugee studies and he has authored numerous articles on the position of Syrian refugees as well as the emigration of Turkish nationals to the West. Mirza Rizwaan Ahmad
Caseworker - Immigration and Protection
Mirza Rizwaan Ahmad recently graduated with a first class in his LLB degree from the University of York. He has an interest in human rights issues stemming from religious persecution, and is currently providing support to our Asylum and Human rights team as well as in general Immigration law matters. He is currently pursuing a Masters in South Asian studies at Oxford University whilst working with us part time.
Rizwaan speaks fluent Urdu.
Following a BA degree in International Studies at Stellenbosch University, majoring in Political Science and History, and minoring in French, Emily completed her GDL and a combined LPC/LLM at the University of Law in Bristol.
Emily undertakes a broad spectrum of Immigration casework with us.
She speaks fluent Afrikaans and has an intermediate level in French.

Claudia has a Doctorate in law from the Universita' di Bologna in Italy as well as a post graduate competitive degree for the judiciary from Bologna. She also studied law for a year in Geneva.
Prior to joining us Claudia had gained paralegal experience in law firms in Italy. She has a special interest in International Human Rights law particularly in the context of armed conflicts.
Claudia is a native speaker of Italian and speaks fluent French.
Maria has an LLB from the University of Kent in European legal studies and
concurrently studied for an LLM and a qualification for the Bar at BPP Law
Her previous work experience includes several mini pupilages.
She is passionate about asylum and human rights.
She is multilingual offering fluent Dari, Pashto, Urdu and Hindi
Paralegal China desk - Business Immigration :
Zoe is currently following her Master of Laws degree in International Trade and Commercial Law at Durham University. Zoe gained her first degree in Law from Capital University in Business and Economics in Beijing in 2019. She was commended for her skills in mooting (advocacy) and is mastering the art of persuasion whilst applying her legal skills to real life issues. Zoe provides paralegal support for our Tier 4 Educational Establishments and Students work and is responsible for our China desk as well as general international promotional events.
Zoe is a native speaker of Mandarin.

Imad recently graduated from Sussex University with a first class in BA in Economics and International relations. His previous work experience includes acting as a policy intern for an MP and a research intern for Oxford University's Khalili Centre.
Imad has a particular interest in our sponsor licensing and skilled migration work.
Imad speaks fluent Arabic.
